PeoplePerHour (PPH) was created to help people start and build their own independent businesses.

PPH was started by a young engineer looking to make a difference in the world. After landing a job at a large engineering firm, Xenois Thrasyvoulou  realized the limitations of the corporate world. Thus, he came up with the idea of launching an outsourcing service. His purpose was to enable busy people with an efficient and effective way of outsourcing projects to other qualified individuals meanwhile paying only for the time used per hour. He figured out that with 70% utilization of each person hired, he would profit.

In The Beginning

The first issue Xenois encountered was figuring out how to use the internet to grow his business more optimally. Xenois created a webpage which allowed buyers to submit requests online and allowed service providers to list their skills and sign up. Xenois received each request by email. Each provider that signed up was stored in a database Xenois created.

Xenois was in charge of outsourcing each request that he received. He did so via phone calls and emails. With his 10% cut, he averaged ca £250. Next, he convinced a friend, Simos, to join the company as his CTO. Simos created a foundation that automated Xenois’ outsourcing services.

The two struggled to keep their company afloat for the first several years, but those struggles laid the foundation for their company. And thus, they created a company grounded in their beliefs of following your gut, failing fast, not giving up, and thinking independently.
