Repetitive Knowledge Based Tasks might take a while to setup to outsource, but they tend to have the biggest return on investment.  Tasks can be repetitive in a specific task or a sequence of tasks.  Having a script, checklist or process flow for a your virtual assistant to follow is important because it will make your outsourcing more effective. There are lots of types of repetitive knowledge based tasks.

Phone Tasks

Often times, virtual assistants will need to complete phone tasks. This may mean that they have to call a restaurant to make reservations or a doctor’s office to try to get an appointment. These tasks can become repetitive as an assistant may need to call several times in order to get their task accomplished. While no special skill set is needed to do this, it is helpful to be persistent and to be a “people person”.  You also want someone to have some knowledge of why they are making the phone calls. Appointments are usually less knowledge based, but calls involving research can require a fair amount of background knowledge.

Data Entry

It’s not uncommon for clients to need data entry work completed. This may consist of entering information into a spreadsheet such as an individual’s name, phone number and email address. These types of tasks can be repetitive. It’s especially helpful if the assistant working on the task has a specific knowledge when it comes to spreadsheets. This will help them efficiently complete the task in a reasonable amount of time.

Blog Posts

There may be times to where clients need to have blog posts written for their website. Blog posts are generally 300-1000 word writing assignments that are often needed to grow a web presence.  There are lots of tools that can be used to automatically create topical content.  In reality you don’t want this.  You want someone who can do some simple research or who has first hand knowledge that can write something unique for your blog.  You want a virtual assistant that has previous writing experience and can write high quality blog posts. Assistants may need to do some research beforehand in order to provide relevant material for the client’s blog.
